Take a moment and breathe

I am here to help you

Child Therapy

To understand a child’s world; why they behave the way they do, what they are thinking, what they are feeling, especially for something they do not have words for… then you must play because that is their primary language.

Teen therapy

Depression, anxiety, academic stressors can be overwhelming. Learn skills to help with your symptoms. Gain an objective person to help navigate your challenges.

Couple Therapy

I work using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, which was developed by Johnson and Greenberg and has been empirically validated (Johnson, 2004). This method focuses on emotion and emotional communication and how that has developed into identifiable patterns in the relationship.

Welcome

No matter what difficulties are pushing you to find a therapist, I want you to rest in the education that therapy can make a difference. I understand how unsettling it feels to know that you need help and I know how good it feels when the situation improves. I am here to give you hope and to partner with you in moving towards healing. In the last several years I have worked with people suffering from a wide variety of mental and relational problems. They came from many nations, with diverse ethnicities, cultures, languages, beliefs, gender and sexual orientations. All felt welcome, all deserve healing.

When spiritual issues come up in therapy, I work from a position of respect for who you are and what you believe. I strive to help you make sense of your experiences within the context of your beliefs.

Hello! I’m Liz

Marriage & Family Therapist, MS LMFT

I’m a native of Seattle and completed my education in Marriage and Family Therapy at Seattle Pacific University which frames how I do therapy, while my life experience brings depth of understanding to this work. For example, raising three children with ADHD taught me a lot more than I could learn in a master’s level course on children with behavioral and attention disorders, but combined the knowledge and experience work together to bring you the best care I can offer.
I enjoy the outdoors on foot and on the water. Being in nature is one way I have learned to keep my perspective and maintain my work/life balance.
I worked for five years in a mental health clinic with clients from many nations, many ethnicities, many religions, many languages, and cultures. I enjoy learning about people and the places they come from. My openness to who they are and my curiosity about how they see the world and their problems builds the understanding and connection necessary to do therapy. Gender and sexual orientation issues are also a welcome part of this work.

My Expertise

ADHD

I have more than 25 years of experience with children and adults with ADHD. I am prepared to help you navigate life with your unique set of symptoms, using skills from several domains including cognitive, behavioral modification, and body movement. I work with clients from 4 to 90 years old.

PTSD

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder can begin in a variety of life experiences. I have been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy through a program certified by the University of Washington and Harborview Regional Medical Center. It is a 12 week program, assuming we are able to meet weekly.

Couples Work

Being in a relationship takes work. Life experiences can take a toll on how we relate to each other. I am prepared to help you identify where problems have occurred in your relationship and find more healthy ways of relating and attaching to each other. I use Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, which is a treatment protocol developed by Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg.

Parenting Support

Are you challenged by the young people in your care? It doesn’t matter if they are two and having tantrums or twelve and giving you silence; I am here to support all of you through this difficult time and get you back to enjoying life together.

Adult

Depression and Anxiety are the two most common reasons people seek mental health support. Many people suffer for years hoping it will go away on its own. If you’re tired of waiting, I am ready to teach you skills to manage your symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

I do not. However, I will provide you with a statement you can submit to your insurance company.

How much does therapy cost?

Individual sessions are $110. Couples sessions are $120. Please note not all insurance plans cover couples therapy. It would be helpful to check with your insurance carrier before committing to therapy. I do have a sliding scale for clients who are unable to manage full fee.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Currently, I can take cash, personal checks, PayPal, Popmoney, and Venmo.

Can I bring my child or children with me?

Children under 12 months are always welcome to be with you. If you are coming for family therapy or if the child is the primary focus of therapy, of course they come. If you are coming for individual or couple therapy and the child is over 12 months, it is generally not in the child’s best interest to be in the room.
